does milk thistle protect the liver when drinking alcohol ?

I'm not an alcoholic or anything like that but I have seen people in there 30's and 40's get cirrosis in the liver. i drink once a week on the weekends and sometimes get trashed…my question is if i take milk thistle , would it protect my liver from the toxins of alcohol ? thanks
